Dear Friend, Even though the Kalama methanol refinery doesn’t have necessary state or federal permits, the methanol company is asking the Southwest Clean Air Agency (SWCAA) to extend the methanol refinery’s Clean Air Act permit for another 18 months. Let’s close the door on this misguided fossil fuel export project. Email wess@swcleanair.org and tell SWCAA: do not extend the Clean Air Act permit for the Kalama methanol refinery. Here’s why SWCAA should not extend the methanol refinery’s Clean Air Act permit: - SWCCA shouldn't waste public resources reviewing and administering projects—like the methanol refinery—that lack state permits and won’t get built.
- The Washington Dept. of Ecology decided that pollution caused by the methanol refinery would hurt Washington’s climate goals and shorelines.
- Smog-forming pollution and other air contamination from the methanol refinery and terminal would harm air quality in Kalama.
