Victory for Salmon A court ruled in our favor, holding that the U.S. Army Corps (Corps) must cool the water heated by the Columbia and Snake River dams to protect salmon. This marks a significant step in our long-running effort to hold the Corps accountable for the heat pollution caused by its dams and reservoirs. We also need Northwest elected leaders to develop inclusive solutions to protect salmon and reinvest in river communities.

U.S. Supreme Court Climate Win Great news! The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed the last legal appeal of a proposal to build the nation’s largest coal export terminal, Millennium Bulk Terminals, proposed along the Columbia. If built, Millennium would have exported up to 44 million metric tons of coal every year. When we fight for what we love, we win.

Oregon Clean Energy Opportunity Passes After months of grassroots organizing, Oregon passed the groundbreaking 100% Clean Energy for All Bill. This ambitious bill will transition Oregon’s electricity to 100% clean energy by 2040 while centering benefits for communities of color and rural, coastal, and low-income communities and workers. Thanks to all of our members who helped secure this historic victory for energy justice in Oregon and across the nation.

Game Changer for Toxic Waste Dump You demanded leadership for a clean Columbia. And now Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden joined forces with Representatives Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici to call for an end to a stalled-out cleanup on the Columbia River near Bonneville Dam. Superfund listing will kickstart a cleanup of this forgotten waste dump. We applaud members of the Northwest delegation for standing up for the people harmed by toxic waste.

Stand in Solidarity with Tribal Nations: In a stunning blow to Indigenous People and Tribes, Washington's Gov. Jay Inslee recently vetoed Tribal consent provisions in the Climate Commitment Act. Urge the Governor to heed the call of Tribal Nations to reverse his decision. -

Julie and Erin will cover the oil industry's dismal year, how Tribes and Columbia River communities stopped the nation's largest oil-by-rail terminal in 2018, and why Zenith Energy took root in Portland. You'll walk away inspired to convince decision makers to stop Zenith.
- RSVP to Watch "Debate on Tribal Rights Heats Up: Stand in Solidarity with the Yakama Nation”: July 27, 2021, 12 p.m. Rye Development proposes the Northwest’s largest pumped-storage hydroelectric project, threatening to destroy Tribal cultural resources for speculative power production.
