Hanford Cleanup Gaining Momentum

What does it take to clean up the most toxic place in America? Unwavering commitment to justice. Last month over 200 people gathered along the Columbia River’s scenic Hanford Reach for “The Hanford Journey,” a day-long event, co-hosted by Yakama Nation and Columbia Riverkeeper, to take a collective stand for Hanford cleanup. Speakers called on the federal government to ensure Hanford cleanup protects all people who rely on the Columbia River.

Fighting for Clean Water

Success! Columbia Riverkeeper sued a massive industrial terminal, EGT, for polluting the Columbia River. Under our settlement agreement, the Longview, WA, grain terminal agreed to comply with the law and pay $715,000 for projects that benefit water quality. We’re continuing our winning record for clean water.

Lower Snake Dam Removal Heating Up

We've had a busy summer working on Lower Snake River dam removal. Last week, 70 Oregon businesses sent a letter to Oregon electeds asking them to help remove the dams. In June, salmon, orca, and river advocates, Tribal members, and Northwest businesses organized a large water- and land-based rally in Portland. The issue is making national headlines: this month the White House weighed in on solutions. Learn more and take action today.

Swim Safe

Sick dogs, unsightly scummy water, and distressing media stories: algal blooms are becoming more common in the Columbia River. To combat this, Columbia Riverkeeper is doing visual monitoring of beaches in Hood River and Portland areas. In addition, we perform weekly E. coli monitoring, visit Swim Guide today to make sure you know the latest swim conditions to keep yourself and your family safe.

Thank you, Brett
