Your Action Matters

Don't be fooled by the fossil fuel industry's latest tactic to expand pipeline capacity and contribute to the climate crisis. TC Energy's GTN Xpress fracked gas expansion will harm NW residents' health, safety, and the climate. Time is running out—the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission could decide as soon as May 18.

The Hanford Issue

In our first newsletter of the year, we spotlight Columbia Riverkeeper’s “Cleaning Up Hanford” program area, which works in solidarity with Tribal Nations to hold the U.S. government accountable for cleaning up Hanford and protecting all people who rely on a healthy Columbia. Check out the stories online today, including extended versions and audio recordings.

Earth Day Challenge

This Earth Day marks Columbia Riverkeeper’s 23rd birthday. In honor of our birthday, we are issuing a challenge: can you help us raise $30,000 for clean water and our climate? By donating now, you power the movement to protect the lifeblood of the Pacific Northwest and our climate, today and for future generations.

Protect Sacred Sites

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission just released the draft environmental review for the Goldendale Pumped Storage proposal. Rye Development plans to build the largest pumped-storage hydroelectric development in the Pacific Northwest. Why are we opposed? The project will excavate two massive 60-acre reservoirs, destroying tribal cultural and religious resources, threatening wildlife, plants, and groundwater. You still have time to voice your concerns. In May, Columbia Riverkeeper will host a series of comment writing workshops where you can weigh in.

Lower Snake Dam Removal Debate Heats Up

Columbia Riverkeeper goes to the opinion pages in Spokane with concerns over Reps. Dan Newhouse and Cathy McMorris Rodgers proposed legislation to maintain the failing status quo with Lower Snake River dams. It’s not too late for Newhouse and McMorris Rodgers to do the right thing.

Partner Spotlight:

Comunidades Celebrates International Women's Day: International Women's Day is an opportunity to honor and recognize the power of women. Comunidades, an organization that amplifies voices for social and environmental justice, hosted an event to highlight the powerful stories of activism, humanitarianism, and community service. Their stories illustrate that there is still much to be done in order to achieve gender equality, but that there is also cause for hope and celebration as we move forward. Columbia Riverkeeper is proud to fiscally sponsor Comunidades.

Take Action:

  • Clean up Hanford: Add your voice to the growing number of people holding the U.S. government accountable for decades of nuclear-waste pollution.
  • Help Lewis River salmon come home: Keep PacifiCorp accountable. PacifiCorp promised Tribal Nations and the State of Washington that the dams would be modified so that threatened salmon could migrate to and from their spawning areas.
  • NEXT Refinery poses too many risks: Urge local, state, and federal officials to reject additional permits for the NEXT refinery project.
