Welcome Back Gov. Inslee: Stop the Methanol Climate Disaster!

One of the most consequential climate decisions of Gov. Inslee’s third term will happen before January 1, 2021, when the Dept. of Ecology decides whether to deny or approve the world’s largest fracked gas-to-methanol refinery in Kalama, WA. Help us send a clear signal to Gov. Inslee: we are counting on his administration to stand up for the Columbia and our climate.

New Lawsuit Challenges ODOE’s Approval of Fracked Gas Power Plant

On November 2, Columbia Riverkeeper filed suit against the Oregon Dept. of Energy for illegally approving Perennial Wind Chaser LLC’s plan to start building a portion of its proposed fracked gas fired power plant in Umatilla County, OR. If built, Perennial would become one of Oregon’s top five greenhouse gas polluters.

Chúush: Water for Warm Springs

Sixty percent of Oregon’s largest Tribal community is facing inconsistent access to safe drinking water. This is a crisis we must all do something about. Columbia Riverkeeper has joined forces with eight other conservation groups and the MRG Foundation to raise money to rebuild water infrastructure for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.

Take Action:

  • Stand up for Salmon, Small Farms. Comments due December 7. The Port of Columbia County wants to swap world-class mint crops, delicious blueberries, and salmon-supporting wetlands for a potential methanol refinery, oil train terminal, or similar heavy industrial project.
  • No New Fracked Gas Power Plants. Urge Oregon to hold Perennial Wind Chaser Station, a fracked gas power plant proposed near Umatilla, OR, accountable for breaking the law.
